CBD scientists who are in love with Hemp Oil

Yes, cannabidiol oil (CBD) is an extract from hemp plants. Yes, hemp and marijuana are related. No, it’s not the same thing and it won’t get you “high.” Anecdotal evidence for hemp CBD oil as a harmless and effective medicine for chronic pain has been around for a while. And now CBD scientists are piling up the evidence.

What is CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is a natural extract from the hemp plant. Hemp is a species of cannabis plant but it’s different from the one hippies smoke. The active drug in marijuana is delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). That’s the stuff that gets you high. CBD is a different substance altogether and has no psychoactive effects.

How does it help?

Recent scientific studies support the personal stories of thousands of people who use CBD daily to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and calm anxiety; many of whom, let down by mainstream pharmaceuticals, were almost at a breaking point before they discovered CBD. In response to this emerging body of scientific evidence, judges agreed to legalize hemp CBD oil in all US States. It’s time to meet the scientists who love CBD.

Meet the CBD Scientists

Two scientists, Schuelert and McDougall, published a study in the August 2011 edition of Neuroscience Letters which showed that CBD is “advantageous for the treatment of inflammatory pain.” A more recent and extensive review conducted by La Porta and team and published in The European Journal of Neuroscience confirmed “the therapeutic value of cannabinoids for osteoarthritis management.” A study published in The European Journal of Pain and conducted by Hammell and team concluded not only that CBD helped in reducing pain and inflammation but also that it does so “without evident side-effects”. An even more recent study in the December 2017 edition of the scientific journal, Pain, carried out by Phillpot, O’Brien, and McDougall, stated that CBD showed potential as a “safe, useful therapeutic for treating neuropathic pain“.

These are just a few of the recent scientific studies published in peer-reviewed journals where the scientists come down in favor of hemp CBD oil as a great therapy for pain relief and reducing inflammation. As time goes on, the body of scientific evidence is likely to get stronger. These studies and others show what many people already knew from personal experience, but they also throw light on how CBD works.

The CBD in hemp oil helps manage chronic pain by acting on the brain’s pain receptors. It also has a positive impact on the immune system which is why it works so well to reduce inflammation. Not only does the CBD in therapeutic hemp oil have a direct effect, but many studies suggest it also triggers the body to produce its own cannabinoids, too.

How can you take CBD?

CBD hemp oil can be made into a cream or gel which you apply to aching joints in cases of arthritis, for example, or as capsules to swallow, and even as a mouth spray. People report its benefits not only for pain relief and inflammation reduction but also anxiety and depression. Now the scientists are learning to love hemp CBD oil and its legal status is more favorable, there’s no need to suffer if regular pharmaceuticals either don’t work for you or cause too many negative side-effects. Hemp CBD oil could be the long-term future of both pain and anxiety management.
